NJ Energy Code Check

Rules and Regulations

The current NJ Energy Code is based on several legal documents:

In accordance with a P.L. 1996, c. 53, the NJ Department of Community Affairs (NJ DCA) regularly undertakes a review of newly released model codes, solicits public comments, and adopts amended versions.

On March 21, 2022, NJ DCA released 54 N.J.R. 3(2) soliciting comments on proposed adoption (with amendments) of various 2021 code updates.

On December 19, 2022 the comments were summarized, along with responses, in a final Rule Adoption document.  It specified that the new codes were adopted on September 2, 2022.

In September, 2022, NJ DCA released Bulletin No. 22-1, which provides guidance on compliance with the new Energy Subcode, including a form for documenting air sealing details.
